Jeff Walton - Class of '68

Passed away on August 22, 2018 after a ~10 year battle with cancer

A message from Jim:

From the Star Tribune:  (One year after his passing:

James David Wicklatz Wicklatz, James David Age 67, died of cancer one year ago, on August 22, 2018, at his home in Minneapolis. He was the son of the late John E. and Dorothy Gray Wicklatz. Jim graduated from Wayzata High School, earned his B.A. at Amherst College, and received an M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh. For over 30 years he worked in publishing, mostly as a meticulous and exacting editor of scientific books for the American Phytopathological Society. A booklover and typophile, he was a longtime member of the Ampersand Club. He also had a keen interest in the history of blues and rock music and a talent for droll mimicry. Above all, Jim was a loving and kind husband, brother, son, and friend, ever considerate and patient. He endured his debilitating illness with courage and grace. He is survived by Elisabeth Sovik, his beloved and devoted wife for 34 years; by his dear sister, Trina Greger, and her husband, Bill Greger; and by his sister-in-law, Katherine Sovik-Siemens, and her husband, Brian Siemens, and their children, Paul Sovik-Siemens (Kim) and Martha Walker (Marlon). Many thanks to Jim's medical oncologist, Dr. Paul Thurmes, who for four years ably and kindly guided Jim and Elisabeth down a long, hard road. Jim's remains were cremated, and by his request his ashes will be strewn by his loved ones in a private gathering.
