Cherwien, Walter Thomas 93, died of natural causes on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
He is survived by spouse of 72 Years, Marian (Hove), children Thomas (Diane), Paul (Christine), David, Mary Lechelt (David), and Stephen (Kathy), 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother Daniel (Arlene) and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mathilde; sister Virginia; and daughter-in-law Susan Palo Cherwien (David).
A graduate of Luther College and University of Iowa, he taught music in Sumner and West Union, Iowa, and at Wayzata High School, Wayzata MN from 1958 1990, choral music then switching to French in 1971. His love of the French language and culture inspired him to lead many educational trips and travel to France. He was a professional musician as a tenor soloist and directed numerous church choirs in the Twin Cities area. He is loved and missed beyond words.
Visitation on All Saints Day, Friday, November 1, 2024, at 12 Noon, followed by Requiem Eucharist at 1:30 pm at Mount Olive Lutheran Church (3045 Chicago Ave S, Minneapolis) with live stream at mountolivechurch.org.
